HIPAA UPDATE TRAINING SESSION FOR POHMS MEMBERS

In-person HIPAA Update Training Session at the Hershey Lodge

SPECIAL PROGRAM UPATE

As a reminder POHMS has arranged HIPAA Update resources for all of its members through Attorneys at Oscislawski LLC AT NO COST TO YOU!

Please note:  For everyone's safety, it now required that only those who are fully vaccinated against COVID will be allowed into the meeting room.  Attendees must show proof of vaccination upon registration.  

 

During the 2020 Virtual Fall Conference our speaker held two presentations:  

  •   Overview of HIPAA Developments
                HIPAA Basics, HIPAA Breach response, OCR HIPAA enforcement actions and
                resolution, HIPAA guidance, Developments and federal guidance on security,
                HIPAA litigation and Regulatory change to calculating penalties for HIPAA
                violations
  •  Information Blocking Rules
                What constitutes information blocking, educating patients about privacy and
                security risks, privacy exception, revising your HIPAA policy accordingly,
                penalties applicable to those who engage in info blocking and deadlines for
                Provider compliance

Included in the POHMS contracted package was: 

  • HIPAA Q&A opportunity
  • HIPAA HITECH-Helpbook with HIPAA P&Ps, compliance documents and tools updated to address recent developments and changes (electronic copy)
  • In-person HIPAA Update Training
  • One Year web access to the HIPAA HITECH-Helpbook documents and other compliance resources, which includes any updates to such documents made during the next 12 months

The In-person HIPAA Update Training is scheduled for:
Friday,  September 24, 2021 
Location:  Hershey Lodge
Time:  9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Breakfast starts at 8:30 am

  • Submit your HIPAA questions to POHMS at fran@pohms.com
  • All questions must be submitted no later than 2 weeks before the HIPAA Update Training.  Answers to all timely submitted questions will be included with the September HIPAA Training.
  • Be sure your practice has registered for the HIPAA Helper Documents and HIE Compliance Library.  Your practice will have access for one-year.  Specific instructions were sent to all POHMS Active members in November 2020.
  • See HIPAA Privacy Rule below in reference to training your staff. 
  • Encourage your Workforce to participate in the HIPAA Update.  There is no fee for the program and each practice can send their HIPAA representative (s).

 

HIPAA Privacy Rule:  45 C.F.R. 164.530(b) Training.

(1)  Standard:  A Covered Entity must train all members of its Workforce on the policies and procedures
       with respect to Protected Health Information (PHI) required by HIPAA’s Privacy Rule, Security Rule
       and Breach Notification Rule, as necessary and appropriate for the members of the Workforce to
       carry out their functions within the Covered Entity.

(2) Implementation Specifications:
   (i) A Covered Entity must provide training that meets the requirements of paragraph (b)(1) of this 
       section, as follows:
         (A) To each member of the Covered Entity’s Workforce by no later than the compliance date for
               the Covered Entity;

         (B) Thereafter, to each new member of the Workforce within a reasonable period of time after the
               person joins the Covered Entity’s Workforce; and

          (C) To each member of the Covered Entity’s Workforce whose functions are affected by a 
                material change in the policies or procedures required by HIPAA’s Privacy Rule, Security
                Rule and Breach Notification Rule, within a reasonable period of time after the material
                change becomes effective in accordance with paragraph (i) of this section.

  (ii) A covered entity must document that the training as described in paragraph (b)(2)(i) of this section
       has been provided, as required by paragraph (j) of this section.

 

Please note:  For everyone's safety, we will follow CDC guidelines for this event:  social distancing and masks will be required.  Masks will be available on site as well.  We kindly ask that all attendees wear a mask while moving around the room, they can be removed at the tables.
